Abstract
日本語では、漢字や、平仮名（ひらがな）や、片仮名（カタカナ）の3種類の文字が知られている。漢字の読み方は、訓読みと音読みの2通りである。しかし時々漢字はそれが読まれる方法に従って読まれないこともある。一つの例は当て字という漢字である。当て字は漢字の読み方、訓読みと音読みの両方と必ずしも同じではない。そのため、日本語学習者、特に初期の学習者にとっては非常に困難する。これが、この作家がこれを研究することに興味を持っている理由である。 白勢(1993:19)は当て字の定義を次のように説明する： “「当て字」とは，「本来的，一般的な字音や字訓，字義に従わずに語の表記が行なわれることがある。語から見れば，その成り立ち，意味や発音にそぐわない漢字が用いられることもある。そういう表記・用法を当て字とよぶ。」とある。” さらに、Dexter（2014）は、当て字は3つの形式、音だけを使う当て字、意味だけを使う当て字、そして両者を組み合わせた当て字を持つとしている。
