Abstract
Accidents are related to various factors, one of which is human negligence such as lack of vigilance and slow reaction time caused by fatigue due to long working hours. Decreased reaction time can be dangerous for daily life, can increase the number of vehicle accidents, increase the incidence of falls in the elderly, and can also disrupt the quality of life. Many factors affect the reaction time including the type of stimulus, age , gender, right or left hand use, fatigue, repetitive stimuli, exercise, nutrition, and hydration / fluid status. There are also substances that can increase reaction times such as caffeine contained in coffee and tea. Green tea (Camellia sinensis L.) is a very popular drink in Indonesia and even in the world. Tea is usually consumed in the morning because it contains caffeine which is useful as a stimulant in the central nervous system for activation of motor movements, arousal and to refresh the body. By doing this research is expected to know that green tea can speed up reaction time so as to reduce the number of accidents that occur. This research was quasi experimental with pre-test and post-test design and was conducted on 29 students of the Faculty of Medicine, Maranatha Christian University with samples that met the criteria of the research subject and were willing to volunteer to be a research participant by treating the time of the visual reaction of red light using instruments chronoscope, then participants drink green tea and count their reaction time after drinking green tea. Data analysis used paired "t" test with α = 0.05. The results of the study of 29 students participating in the study showed an acceleration in red visual reaction time after drinking green tea in red by 31% with p = 0,000, The conclusion of this research is green tea accelerates reaction time
