Abstract
Berbagai penyakit di rongga mulut disebabkan oleh Staphylococcus aureus. Biasanya penyakit tersebut diobati dengan antibiotik, tetapi tidak selalu berhasil karena resisten terhadap beberapa antobiotik, sehingga dibutuhkan alternatif pengobatan dengan memanfaatkan tumbuhan herbal. Penelitian bermaksud untuk mengetahui efek antibakteri buah andaliman dengan cara mengukur diameter zona hambat ekstrak etanol buah andaliman (Zanthoxylum achanthopodium DC) dalam berbagai konsentrasi terhadap bakteri Staphylococcus aureus secara in vitro Penelitian dilakukan secara deskriptif analitik laboratorium eksperimental in vitro yang terdiri dari 7 kelompok perlakuan. Data yang diukur adalah diameter zona hambat yang dibentuk oleh cakram berbagai konsentrasi ekstrak etanol buah andaliman (konsentrasi 100%, 50%, 25%, 12,5%, 6,25%), kontrol positif (eritromisin) dan kontrol negatif. Data dianalisis dengan uji Krusskal wallis, dilanjutkan dengan uji Mann Whitney, α= 0,05 kemaknaan berdasarkan nilai p< 0,05. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan diameter zona hambat terbesar dibentuk oleh konsentrasi 100% yaitu sebesar 7,74 mm yang dinilai kurang efektif menurut Greenwood (batas diameter efektif > 10 mm) dan tidak sebanding dengan kontrol positif (26,57 mm). Sebagai simpulan, ekstrak etanol buah andaliman bersifat antibakteri, namun kurang efektif.
