Abstract

Globalization brings forth closer relationships between nations across the world. This means acculturation process is almost unavoidable. There are indications that the culture of developed countries will most likely have dominant existence to affect other country’s culture. Indonesia is one of the countries that face this acculturation. Acculturation is a process which said to keep indigenous culture exists and supplements it with a new culture. But in reality many are complaining about the erosion and the marginalization of the original culture. Many experts stated that the preservation of Indonesian culture is insufficient compared to foreign culture penetrate to our country. Eventually this will leads to the extinction of our cultures. The most determining factor of culture preservation is the people themselves. They need to be educated and well informed about the importance of cultural values in their state of life, in their work and in their daily life. Education plays an important role in building the human character of Indonesia that adopts our fine culture. Education also plays a role in teaching about relationships with other nations and cultures that are useful for adoption. The balance between them is very vital in creating a quality acculturation. This paper seeks to examine the role of education in improving the quality of graduates and the preservation of Indonesian culture through the realization of good acculturation and examine the behavior of acculturation itself. These examinations are expected to preserve the local culture while creating a culture that will support national and state life in Indonesia.
