Abstract
This paper is a study of the aesthetic elements of the Karo traditional house in terms of ethnomathematics. Karo is located in North Sumatra and has a high value history, culture and artifacts. One of these artifacts that still survives is the Karo traditional house. This traditional house not only functions as a protector of its inhabitants but also has a deep function and meaning in accordance with the customs and culture of the community. In the Karo traditional house, the form, function and motif of the aesthetic elements describe the close relationship between humans and their natural environment. This paper is intended as a qualitative research with an ethnographic approach by examining the aesthetic elements of the Karo traditional house which contains the concept of geometry. Without studying the concept of geometry in mathematics, the Karo people have applied the concept of geometry in their daily life, as reflected in creating aesthetic elements in the Karo traditional house.
