Abstract
Hendra Gunawan and Jeihan Sukmantoro are two legendary painters whose names are still significant to the progress of the Indonesian Art history. The writings about Indonesian artist‟s art works especially in visual language paradigm is still scarce.Therefore this research is important to do in order to documenting great artworks of great artist in visual language paradigm. The purpose of this research is to assess how are the visual language in Hendra Gunawan and Jeihan Sukmantoro paintings The result of this research is the body becoming a central theme because through the body gesture and its position, both artist are trying to convey a personal and specific messages. Hendra Gunawan visual language put more emphases in Ruang Waktu Datar (RWD) where narration becoming an important aspect, so that in order to understand the paintings, one must see the whole context . In Jeihan works, the visual language put more emphases in Naturalis Momenopname prespective where emphasizes the object image with no interest in putting it on an narrative sequence that explained a situation.
