Abstract

As the main instrument used in GKP Awiligar, Angklung has more meaning than just a musical instrument. The location of the church which is in Tanah Sunda, made GKP Awiligar wants to make Angklung as a unifying tool to gather the surrounding community by holding a learning activities on how to play Angklung. The Church building designed based on the re-creation of the instrument. Shape of Angklung used as the aesthetic element to emphasize the identity. Bamboo (Angklung’s basic material) used to control the acoustic of Church’s interior. Julang Ngapak roof (Sundanese Roof Style) used to allow the movement of air in and out the building simultaneously from the space between different level of the roof. ‘Resonance’ in this context wants to see Angklung not just as an instrument that makes sound, but also can makes something personally meaningful, stays deep for a long time and have an impact to the souls who play, hear, and stay in the building.
