Abstract
This work refers to the concept of traditional Sundanese culture, Tritangtu. The word “Tri” means three, while “Tangtu” means definitely. That’s mean the Sundanese do not rely on one’s strength, but on the higher power, which is the source of everything’s purpose. Tritangtu intuitively is still applied in the daily life of Sundanese people, for example, in the values of life, namely, “silih asah, silih asih and silih asuh”. Tritangtu has the philosophy of the upper world- white color, the under world black color, and the middle world-red color. In nature, that is the sky that gives rain, the land that grows plants and humans that unites the heavens and the earth into various works that benefit the world.Re-creation in this work is to revitalise the Tritangtu concept applied through visuals, techniques, and dimensions. Printed through UV printing techniques, this piece tries to make an interaction with the audience as the topic is the traditional Sundanese ancestral beverage that called “ Bandrek”. This drink made from coconut milk, ginger, lemongrass, brown sugar and kolang kaling slices (sugar palm fruit). Ginger, lemon grass represent the under world, coconut milk, coconut sugar, and slices kolang kaling from upper world. Humans as a part of dunia tengah ate processing into delicious drink, that the taste sweet and warm. Therefore this work does not stand alone but will be side by side with the work of other artist with as complementary themes.
