Abstract
Language is one of many ways that people can communicate one with another. There are many languages in the world, which one of them is Mandarin. As one of languages that known in many countries and has already gave many influences for many students to learn about it, there are some problems perceived by them especially when they have to find some new words. Only few dictionaries available to guide them, no wonder if many foreigner students insist the Mandarin dictionary to help them study about the language. There are many differences between Mandarin and other dictionaries, like English for instance. This kind of differences for examples in word findings method, the complexity of Mandarin letters, the letter differences, and the amount of letters. Although we can use dictionaries in book form, but manual searching for words in it perceived less effective for many people. In this reasons, the application of Indonesian-Mandarin/Mandarin-Indonesian Online will be made due to the need of helping Indonesian people to learn about Mandarin language. The development of the application will use top down development method that consist of several stages, which are analysis, design, implementation, testing and deployment stages. For the design stage, there are several tools will be used like ERD (Entity Relationship Diagram) and UML (Unified Modeling Language). In this dictionary application, some features will be provided, namely: word searching, word and sentence translation. The features can be done in 3 ways. The first way is input the “hanzi”, “pinyin”, and Indonesian words. The second way is searching based on “bushou”. And the third way is input the “hanzi” letter. This application has been tested by several students as user and they found efficiencies and effectiveness to translate sentences both from Mandarin or Bahasa after use it.
