Abstract

The year of 1990 is the era where art works in Indonesia enter a booming phase. In this year, art work sold have a dramatic increase in their price. A lot of artists follow art market preference, but some of them are not influenced by this condition. They are Agus Jolly, Hendrawan Rianto, Krisna Murti, and Heri Dono. Visual languages of their works, in other hand, are considered in the international art place. Visual language is the method to interpret visual data. Visual language the caracteristics of their art always come from the local theme implemented into local material and subject matter in their work. The media used by them combines the local media such as gunungan, rattan, bamboo, and technology media such as television, and materials such as iron and steel, lighting, etc. Visual language of four artists is the traditional value that are not influenced by change of age implemented into new materials.
