Abstract

Teens that experienced a very high stress may develop psychopathology. It can be prevent by developing the capacity of resilience. Teenagers have certain characteristics that different from other stage of development; the review aim is to gain a comprehensive description of aspects of resiliency, protective factors and risk factors that typical of adolescents. Method in this study is theoretical deduction and descriptive method using interview techniques and questionnaires about resilience, protection and risk factors. The conclusions are; resilience in adolescents can be measured by (a) social competence aspects, namely: responsiveness, communication skills, empathy, helping others to achieve their goals, ability to forgive (include adolescent relationships with parents, other adults and peers); (b) problem-solving skills, the ability to define realistic goals, planning ability, effort to look and try for alternative solutions, ability to recognize source of support, ability to analyze problems and find appropriate solutions (including education, relationship with parents and sisters and teachers, relationships with friends); (c) independence, which has a positive self-identity appropriate to gender roles, capabilities in education, physical appearance, internal self-control and having initiative, self-efficacy and mastery, adaptively taking an emotional distance, humor; (d) Future orientation, namely achievement motivation, special interest, optimism and hope for the future of education and social relationships, spirituality. Protective factor for teenagers are a caring relationships, high expectation, and opportunities to Participate and Contribute, as well as guidance from family, peers, schools. Factors that can be classified as Risks are economic factors, father and mother relationships, parent and child relationships, health and physical appearance, academic/school achievement, relationships with peers and opposite sex.
