Abstract
The purpose of this study is to obtain the level of resiliency, protective factor and the basic needs of parents at Hospital "X" in Bandung. Sampling method used is purposive, over a population of 40 parents (40 fathers and 40 mothers) that have major type Thalasemic children that undergo blood transfusion for more than 3 months and have more than one child. Level of resiliency is measured using resiliency quetioner based on resiliency theory from Bonnie Benard (2004). Data obtained computed using distribution method and cross tabulation between the protective factor, resiliency and basic needs. Results of the study shows that all parents (100%) have high resiliency. Whether the protective factor is reflected on part of their parents as well as the community, their basic needs are substantially fulfilled, only a minor portion is not met. Within the family, trust and high expectation expressed by the mother towards the father over his responsibility to take part in the child's up bringing is of something very crucial and much needed on the part of the father. However, for parents it is not merely opportunity and expression of trust that are necessary. Caring relationship shown when problems crop up becomes very important for the mother.
