Abstract
Many people assume that Lupus is a rare disease and has a small number of patients, but in reality the patients with this disease are quite a lot and still increasing. Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic autoimmune disease that causes inflammation and can attack various organs, including skin, joints, and internal organs. One of the environmental factors that trigger Lupus is stressful condition. Lupus patients often experience mental distress, to depression, that would aggravate the condition of the body's immune, and in turn the immune system would trigger the disease. This paper discusses the application of Resilience Theory (Benard, 2004) in people with Lupus. Resilience refers to an individual's ability to adapt successfully and function competely despite experiencing stress or adversity. Resilience is reflected in four aspects, namely social competence, problem solving skills, autonomy, and sense of purpose and bright future (Benard, 2004). The results show all people with Lupus in Yayasan X Bandung high degree of resiliency. People with Lupus who received support from family and environment, will be able to develop social competence, problem solving skills, autonomy, and sense of purpose and bright futures. The development of these four points will develop resilience in people with Lupus. By having a high level of resilience, people with Lupus are expected to have the ability not just to survive, but can adapt in a positive, even expected to work and live optimally in the middle of their illness.
