Abstract
With the purpose of discovering Schwartz’s Values in students with Sundanese background in ‘Z’ High School Bandung, especially about the hierarchy value, this research is titled ‘A Descriptive Study about Schwartz’s Values in Sundanese students in ‘Z’ High School Bandung. Schwartz states that there are 10 type of universal values: self-direction, stimulation, hedonism, achievement, power, security, conformity, tradition, benevolence, and universalism. Those 10 values are found with different hierarchy in different countries / cultures which are observed. The respondents of this study include 186 students from grade X in ‘Z’ High School Bandung. All respondents are between 15-16 years old with middle to middle-high economy class and majority of Muslim as religion. The instrument used in this study is Portrait Values Questionnaire (PVQ) which was developed by Schwartz in 1992. The method used is survey. In order to get hierarchy values, the data was processed by mean statistic technique. From the data processing, it is found that hierarchy values in respondents from the highest mean (most important) to the lowest one, as follows: security, universalism, conformity, self-direction, benevolence, achievement, stimulation, hedonism, tradition, and power. If this result is connected to the base data which is the respondent identities, there are no hierarchy value differences in various economic status and genders.
