Abstract

In the Chinese language teaching in Indonesia, course books become the one of the most prominent problems. Most of the Chinese educational institutions in Indonesia are still using Chinese course books which published by China, Taiwan, Singapore and Malaysia. As we know, there is no course books are absolutely perfect and certainly suitable to be used for all language learners. These circumstances led to the selection of course book into a complex work. The selection of course book are connected with the course book evaluation, both internal evaluation and external evaluation. The good or bad quality course book have impacts and influences to the entire teaching process. In addition, the selection of course book need to pay attention to many things. Course book must be able to meet the Indonesian social needs of the Chinese language; accordance with educational institution’s Chinese language learning purpose; accordance with characteristics of learners’ age, characteristics of learning language, and learners’ Chinese language proficiency level. This paper specifically describes to improve the quality of learning, creativity is required in selecting Chinese language course book for elementary level adult learners in Indonesia.
