Abstract
The goal of this research is to get a description about the correlation between the basic needs, protective factors and the degree of resiliency. This research was done with 40 warakawuris in Bandung. It explores factors that relate to the degree of resiliency of warakawuris. Furthermore the degree of resiliency was compared between a group of warakawuris whose husbands passed away during the last 3 years and a second group whose husbands passed away longer than 3 years ago. The data was collected by Winny Titio, and the measurement tools used are based on resilient theory from Bonnie Benard (2004). The Rank Spearman validity analysis established 62 useable items with a range of 0,302 - 1,00. The reliability coefissien formulation was executed according to Alpha Cronbach and resultat in 0,7640. Based on the results of this research, it can be concluded that (1) there was a significant correlation between the protective factors and the basic needs of warakawuris in Bandung, especially between high expectations from families, community factors and the warakawuris’ basic needs (rs = 0,333, sig = 0,036). (2) There was no correlation between the protective factors and the resiliency of warakawuris in Bandung. (3) There was a significant correlation between basic needs and the resiliency of wakawuris in Bandung, especially between basic needs of the community and the resiliency of warakawuri (rs = 0,407, sig = 0,009). Moreover the results showed that 82,5% warakawuris had a high degree of resiliency. Among the warakawuris with a high degree of resiliency, 100% displayed high social competence, 90,9% had high problem solving abilities, 97% indicated high autonomy skills, and 100% had a high sense of purpose. Additionally the research established that the period of time passed since the death of the husband did not cause any significant difference in the degree of resiliency of the two groups analysed.
