Abstract

Indonesian society is a pluralistic society. The plurality includes various aspects of life such as: ethnicity, religion, race, tradition and so on. Such conditions on the one hand is seen as something positive. As wealth and must be preserved and maintained the continuity and sustainability, but on the other hand this condition as well as a threat because at any time can be a trigger of disharmony, and may even lead to the disintegration of the nation, if not carried out the assessment as well as measures to be able to continue to deepen and strengthen the unity of the nation. Ignorance of history can lead a group of people acts like "anarchic, reckless" against one of the ethnic groups in Indonesia. History is important to know and also to be echoed and disseminated to the younger generation. It’s hardly to found the books that record the history in details about the involvement of the Chinese community in achieving independence. And also the achievement of accomplishments which was achieved by the Chinese society was less echoed. Perhaps only a few young people who know the role of the Chinese society since the nationalist struggle. And also about the first female police officer in Indonesia, is a Chinese woman named Chang May Zhiang alias Anna Lao Tjiao. It’s interesting to be associated with the presence of the Chinese community in Indonesia. Their presence seemed to have fused and become an integral part of Indonesian life. Echoed proclamation dated August 17, 1945 are owned by all citizens in Indonesia, including a derivative of the Chinese society who are already residing in Indonesia, much earlier. In the other words, their presence should be recognized and interpreted together with the Indonesian people. Unfortunately, discrimination of some communities still occur against the Chinese community. This study will examine the existence of the Chinese community to national life (development) in Indonesia on various aspects, particularly concerning in economic, social, cultural and political. The method use in this research is the study of literature. Assessment of the literature will enrich this paper as well on the various contribution that has been given by the derivative of the Chinese people to change and progress of the nation of Indonesia. Through this paper is expected that the younger generation can learn the history of the Chinese community and the presence of a variety of positive effects that have been made to the Indonesian nation.
