Religion and tradition characterized by patriarchal culture place women in a marginalized position. Women are reduced to the second class citizen and subordinate status. However women in rural areas accept this reality because their tradition is connected to their religion. The marginalization of their gender is not considered as negative, on the contrary, it is accepted and preseved as part of their culture that is not tained by feminism. They develop a way of life that is relevant to regional consensus which is multicultural feminism or, can be called, post-traditional feminism. Based on the issue of marginalized women's life, I create a series of paintings based on a subjective view of those women through eyes of a women. The choice of female human figure is interesting, not only because they are beautiful but also their body language expresses an idea that can not be expressed verbally. Marginality is expressed through their body gesture. To visualize this issue, I create compositions by placing a female figure or figures on canvas that has been transformed into pictorial space. In addition, this concept is strengthened by adding color field into composition. The combination between pictorial space as an element and the replacement of the figure on the edge of the conveys the impresssion of marginality.
