Abstract
A system to monitor user activities has been designed and implemented with the purpose to perform monitoring and easing the work of the system's administrator in collecting information about computer usage in laboratories or agencies. This information is then can be used as the basis to perform necessary actions against users who have been proven to violate their loyalties to the rules and regulations of using public computers. The system is divided into two implementations, which are the controller side and the agent-controlled side. One computer, installed with the controller application, will function to monitor and control activities performed by users. This controller side computer is equipped with interface to access the available features of the controller. The other computers, installed with the agent-controlled applications, will receive the commands from the controller computer (administrator) and then execute the functions corresponding to these commands, such as recording the monitor screen. Other additional features are added such as controlling the use of keyboard and mouse, accessing storage medias (hard disk, CDROM, or external devices), controlling of task manager, and also accessing information about keyboard usage. The implemented system shows the effectiveness of the application to perform monitoring the specific activities of users. These information can be used as authentic proof to perform necessary reaction to the prohibited actions that should not used in public computers.
