Abstract
Bandung is the capital city of West Java Province and also the center of The
Diocese of Bandung. Bandung Diocese has a clear vision based on John 15:17. The
Pastoral Care vision is implemented in the spirit of “Passion for Christ, Passion for
others, and Passion for the community”.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, Bandung authorities implemented various scales
of Community Activity Restriction to reduce the spread of Covid-19. The Church
responded by limiting faith-related activities and supporting the virtual Eucharist. Saint
Theodore Parish - Bandung realizes that the local Church could take on more roles
than limit the gathering in the Church. The Parish committed to fighting against Covid19 following local needs.
This paper presents how the Parish built a response team in partnership with
Catholic physicians who lives in the territory. The Parish took a role in educating
people about Covid-19, tracing and testing, vaccination programs, and providing social
service to the neighbourhood. In the peak of Covid-19 outbreak, the team provides
online consultation for church members who live in isolation due to Covid-19.
By doing this, the Parish accomplished WHO recommendation for religious
leaders in the context of Covid-19, and translated Bandung Diocese's Pastoral Care
into contextual services.
