Abstract
This study aims to determine correlation between subjective well – being components and internet addiction. This research employs the subjective well–being (by Ed Diener) and internet addiction (by Kimberly Young) theories. 206 high school students participated in this research based on the total amount of time they use internet. Instruments used in this study, SWLS & SPANCE and Young Internet Addiction Questionnaire, were modified by the researchers. The results revealed that there were a significant negative correlation between subjective well – being cognitive component (SWLS) and internet addiction, a significant positive correlation between subjective well – being negative affect component (SPANE – N) and internet addiction, and no significant correlation between subjective well – being positive affect component (SPANE – P) and internet addiction. The conclusion is not all components are correlated to internet addiction. For further research, the other’s internet addiction factors need to be explored.
