Abstract

The work entitled “DUALIRONIC” was created with the intention of promoting idea of ‘mis-context representation’ as one of the characteristics of postmodern fine art. In order to celebrate the ‘present’ of art, this work offers a simple implementation of multi-layering concept, which is shown through repetitive-paradoxical overlapping images. The term “Dualironic” is borrowed from the word: ‘duality’ and ‘ironicity’. Its manifestation appears in the depiction of visual objects that contain dual-dichotomous meaning, which is deliberately chosen as an amplifier of ironicity due to visual extensification out of context. The brushstroke and drawing application on batik cloth is an analogy of ironicity- as character of postmodern art through the fusion of modernity and traditionality. On the other hand, the display of this work is intentionally arranged without spanraam or frame, in order to reduce the character of conventionality in art.
