Abstract

Intake of excess high fat feeding in long term, especially accompanied with sedentary lifestyle, can lead to obesity and may caused fatty liver. The research objective was to determine the most effective dose of Calcium in inhibition of weight gain and improvement of histopathologic fatty liver in male Wistar rats that fed high fat feeding (HFF). The method is real laboratory experimental comparative with CRD for 28 days. A total of 30 male Wistar rats were divided into 6 groups, namely NC (negative control), PC (positive control/ Xenical), SC (standard controls), Cal (18mg/d), Ca2 (36mg/d), and Ca3 (54mg/d). During the first 14 days, all groups were given HFF except SC. The 15th - 28th day, the group Cal , Ca2, Ca3, and SC were given calcium . On the 28th the liver 's rats were made histological preparations using HE staining. The parameters were body weight and liver fat cell number which calculated from 2 lobules. Statistical tests using one-way ANOVA followed by Tukey HSD. The results, in weight gain, NC group showed highly significant differences compared with PC, SC, Ca2, Ca3. Liver analysis results, the group that showed the least number of fat cells is Ca3. Conclusions, the most effective dose of calcium is 54mg/day.
