Abstract

The number of children with special needs in the world is increasing every year, but the knowledge and the handling ability of people, especially the families toward the children with special needs is very lack. Thus, universities as educational institutions play an important role because it can contribute positively to the survival of children with special needs by organizing community service activities through art education in developing skills and creativity. Psychological and art aspects are used as a benchmark in assessing the creative process of children with special needs through the making of an art work. With the existence of community service activities undertaken by academic institutions/universities, especially art and design faculty and social foundations for children with special needs such as Maranatha Christian University and Percik Insani, it can provide support and provision of knowledge for the family and provide art therapy, sensory, motor, occupational, and endurance train/ concentration of children with special needs through the process of making simple artwork within the specified time duration.
