Abstract
Aedes aegypti mosquito is the main vector of dengue hemorrhagic fever that can cause death, so it is necessary to eradicate the larvae with temephos. But persistent temephos exposure can cause environmental pollution so natural larvicide, such as Jatropha curcas, is required. The aim of research was to find out whether the Jatropha curcas ethanol extract had a larvacidal effect on the Aedes sp. larvae and had an equivalent effect with temephos. This research was a laboratory experimental design. Seven hundreds of Aedes sp. larvae were divided to 7 different treatments with 4 repetitions and for each glass contained 25 larvae as follows EEDJP I (62,5 ppm); II (125 ppm); III (250 ppm); IV (500 ppm); V (1000 ppm); temephos 1 ppm (positive control); aquades (negative control). The counted data was number of larvae that died after 24 hours. Data was analyzed with Kruskal-Wallis test then was followed by Mann-Whitney test. The results of the average dead larvae on group of EEDJP I; II; III; IV was significantly different (p <0,05) compared to VIIth group. The larvae mortality in Vth group was significantly different (p <0.01) compared VIIth group. While if compared with VIth group wasn’t significantly different (p = 1,000). The conclusions of this study are EEDJP I; II; III; IV; V effect as larvicide to Aedes sp. larvae, and EEDJP V which have same effect to temephos.
