Abstract
The purpose of this study was to measure the relationship between explanatory style and IPK (GPA) on students that took skripsi (thesis) at Faculty of Psychology Universitas Kristen maranatha. Explanatory style was measured with Attributional Sytle Questionnaire from Seligman that translated to Indonesian language. Respondents of this study amounted to 51 students. The data was statistically processed by using Spearman correlational method. Based on the statistical analysis, it was found that there is a significant positive correlation between explanatory style and IPK. The correlational coefficient was 0,380 with significance 0,006 (<a=0,05). Within the dimension of explanatory style, only PermanenceBad that has a significant negative correlation with IPK (correlation coefficient=0,337 with significance=0,015). There was also a significant negative correlation between bad events explanatory style with IPK (correlation coefficient=-0,343 with significance = 0,014). based on study results, the faculty are advised to improve the optimistic explanatory style through the provision of counseling and motivational messages in the forums. Students are also expected to be explain at the problems and failures in a way that is more optimistic. Parents of students are expected to avoid excessive criticism of the studies of their children and more encourage so that students can be more optimistic in dealing with their studies.
