Abstract

Introduction: Wound healing process aims to restore the integrity of damaged tissue. This process is influenced by the supply of materials and nutrients that can be obtained from medicinal plants, including Aloe vera (Linn.), which can help speed up the process of wound healing by affecting factors that play an important role in wound healing process. Transforming Growth Factor B1 (TGF-B1) is one of the growth factor that has a very important role and involvement at every phase in the process of wound healing. Objective: The purpose of this study is to measure the effect of Aloe vera (Linn.) topically to a wound in the oral mucosa that have a significant effect on Wound healing process. Methods: This research was conducted with a purely experimental study on 24 male Wistar rats by making inquiry on the labial gingival mandible that are not applicable and applied Aloe vera (Linn.) topically. In the third and sixth day, gingival tissue will be taken to be examined with immunohistochemistry to determine expression of TGF-B1. Result: Statistical test results on the expression of TGF-B1 showed that there were significant effects of Aloe vera (Linn.) toward increased expression of TGF-B1 (third day, p=0.041); sixth day p=0.015). Discussion: This occurs because of TGF-B1 plays an important role in regulating the growth and differentiation of cells and has a role as a regulator in the process of tissue repair and remodeling. Conclusion: The conclusion of this study shows that there is the effect of Aloe vera (Linn.) topicaly to the wound healing process.
